Tribal Outreach and Supervising Educator

Position Overview

As part of MSU Extension (MSUE) and the Health and Nutrition Institute (HNI), this position provides leadership and expertise in nutrition and physical activity specifically within tribal nations and communities.

Additionally, this position provides leadership to the Nutrition and Physical Activity (NPA) program and staff in counties within District 2, including Marquette, Alger, Schoolcraft, Luce, Mackinac, and Chippewa counties by providing coaching, training, and technical support.

 

In this position, you will coordinate with Tribal nations and communities to identify, design, implement and evaluate programs that are culturally relevant and resonate with community driven initiatives related to NPA education, policy, systems and environmental change activities. Through your leadership, you will foster relationships with Tribal nations across the state to explore the unique needs of Tribal populations related to nutrition education and physical activity and connect to MSUE’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) program on collaborative efforts to attain equitable impact for participants.

 

You will lead efforts related to recruiting and onboarding of staff and will oversee continuing education and development. In this supervising role, you will be expected to hold your staff accountable to the program requirements.

 

Through collaboration in research, engagement with community members, and dissemination of research through various methods, including in- person and multimedia programming and written communications, you will collaborate with staff to implement programs that lead to public knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that empower Michigan’s limited resource adults, families and youth to gain knowledge about nutrition and healthy foods, increase their daily physical activity, and reduce food insecurity. You will also develop, produce, and deliver NPA educational materials with content that is accessible and inclusive and is consistent with HNI messaging.

 

Although negotiable, there will be space available for this position to work from the Marquette County office.

 

Minimum Qualifications (see full description for complete list of requirements)

• Master’s degree in community nutrition, human development, family studies, psychology, sociology, public health or related field.

Dear 4-H community

As concern about the novel coronavirus grows, Michigan State University Extension remains focused on the health and wellbeing of its participants, volunteers and employees. With their wellbeing in mind, MSU Extension is asking all staff and volunteers to not participate in group settings. This applies to our Michigan 4-H volunteers and youth, as well. In this regard, please postpone or cancel in-person 4-H meetings and activities scheduled between now and April 20. If those meetings can be moved to an online format such as Zoom or Skype, please connect with your local MSU Extension staff members for assistance. This communication differs from the message you received last week but as we continue to monitor this very fluid situation, this is a necessary modification. We will continue to communicate updates, as needed.
Although our face-to-face programs and events will not take place, MSU Extension will continue to serve individuals. To support parents and caregivers with children at home, MSU Extension has assembled a collection of helpful educational resources. From science to financial literacy, whether for toddlers or teenagers, members of the 4-H community can take advantage of these activity books, guides and other resources to help children remain engaged in educational experiences throughout their school break.
Browse the site by age and topic area to find an activity or lesson that is perfect for your young person. Please check back often as MSU Extension staff are working quickly to offer new and creative virtual learning experiences and add additional resources to this space.
