Join
us for a fun maple sugaring adventure as we discover how maple sap becomes
maple syrup. Explore the fascinating science and history of making maple syrup
from sap as you virtually visit Tollgate Farm's sugarbush and sugar shack.
You'll have a chance to explore how and why a tree produces sap in the first
place, how to identify a maple tree, and how we tap maples for sap. Observe a
modern day maple sugaring operation and explore the regional history of making
this sweet treat by getting to know the history of the land, its peoples, and
the tools. Be food scientists as together we explore the science of sweetness
and steam in your very own testing lab.

Big changes are happening at the farm as we transition from winter
to spring. During this time we can observe the new life that is beginning and
the old life that is returning and reemerging. From baby animals to sprouting
seeds, each day we will embark on a new adventure as we virtually interact with
the animals and places that make up our farm, answer big questions, and
complete a daily STEAM project. This virtual program includes an activity box
that will enhance every session. This program is guaranteed to be interactive,
hands-on, educational, and of course, FUN!

Let's
follow the nutrient trail of consumers, producers, and decomposers as we meet
our goats, chickens, and red wiggler friends, the worms! Have fun visiting the
garden, greenhouse, orchard, and animal barn to investigate how plants depend
on animals and insects for their survival and how the energy of the sun and
nutrients travel through the nutrient cycle. Students will interact with
Tollgate Farm staff as they question, hypothesize, experiment, analyze data,
conclude and question again through hands-on STEAM challenges.

How do plants grow and how do they depend on other living things?
Students explore plant structure and function and what plants need to grow.
Visiting the garden, greenhouse, gardens, fields, and animal barn, students
will fun investigations on pollination, pollinators, seed dispersal. Through
lots of STEM learning activities, students take a close look at where our food
comes from as we explore ways we can make a difference in our world!
