Household Hints - Save time, save money, save energy

To make your own liquid hand soap, you need one (3.5 ounce) bar of soap (choose soap which contains moisturizing cream) and three cups of water. Grate soap, add water and microwave on high until well dissolved. Stir every two minutes. Cool and pour into a dispenser.

Change the color of cut flowers by adding a little food coloring to warm water and placing stems in the solution. Use light-colored blooms and not too much coloring.

If a plastic storage container has an unpleasant smell, fill it with water, add a few drops of vanilla extract and let stand overnight.

Stand hardened nail polish in a bowl of hot water to return it to it's original consistency. Repeat as often as necessary. Keep your nail polish in the refrigerator to prevent it from thickening.

Household Hints - Save time, save money, save energy

Throw a dry bath towel into the dryer when drying a load. Laundry will dry a lot quicker, therefore saving power and wear on the dryer.

Mayonnaise is good conditioner for dry hair. Apply 1/2 cup to unwashed hair, cover with foil or plastic wrap, and let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse off the mayonnaise, then shampoo.

Household Hints - Save time, save money, save energy

To give burned food the brush off, let a mixture of half water and half vinegar soak in the pan overnight. The burned food comes off easily the next day with a light scouring.

For a professional-style hot-oil treatment, run very hot water over two bath towels, then spin them in the washing machine. Saturate hair with olive or corn oil, and cover your head in foil or plastic wrap. Put the towels around this covering, so that they will not get dirty. Wait for 20 minutes before shampooing and rinsing.
