I you have to run the water forever until it gets hot, wrap your hot water pipes in an easy-to-apply foam blanket, available at hardware or building supply stores. Not only will you save on the water bill, but your hot water heating costs will be reduced too.
A small amount of oil or butter added to the water when cooking pasta prevents it from boiling over or sticking together.

To remove rust marks from clothing, squeeze lemon juice on the spots, pat with salt and hang the garment in the sun to dry.
Line freezer baskets with net so that small items do not fall through. A full, tightly packed freezer runs economically.

To save energy, do not preheat the oven before cooking casseroles or meat dishes.
For mud on carpets, let it dry (this usually takes one or two hours), then vacuum up the deposit. If necessary, use a stiff brush to loosen the dried mud first.

Throw a dry bath towel into the dryer when drying a load. Laundry will dry a lot quicker, therefore saving power and wear on the dryer.
Mayonnaise is good conditioner for dry hair. Apply 1/2 cup to unwashed hair, cover with foil or plastic wrap, and let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse off the mayonnaise, then shampoo.

Close off heat and doors to unused rooms.
Get rid of lingering bacteria in dish towels by placing them, newly washed, in a microwave. Turn on at high setting for five minutes, then remove the cloths.

Scratches on glassware will disappear if polished with toothpaste.
Stuff an old jacket sleeve with padding, and sew it up to make a draft protector for a door. Use a bright color so that no one will trip over it.
